More than 21 Weeks' Pregnant
In your third trimester of pregnancy, you may be able to choose from the following tests:
| Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing
Non-invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is the most accurate prenatal genetic screening test and may be OHIP-funded or private-pay depending on your situation. There is no risk to the pregnancy because it is done through blood work. NIPT can tell you the chance for having a baby with trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome) and other chromosome differences. NIPT can be done from the time you are 9 or 10 weeks pregnant until the end of the pregnancy.
| 18-22 week (detailed anatomy) ultrasound
You can have a 18-22 week (detailed anatomy) ultrasound to get information about the growth and development of the baby. Although the ultrasound is ideally done between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy, it can be done past this time window.
